VicGrid has chosen its preferred route.
The state government has identified a preferred transmission route, connecting wind farms off the Gippsland coast to the power grid.
The preferred route for the 500 kilovolt double-circuit overhead line runs around 60 kilometres between the Loy Yang Power Station switchyard and a proposed new terminal station at Giffard. Around 200 metres wide, it will provide the corridor for shared transmission infrastructure.
The route goes through Giffard West, Stradbroke West, Willung, Hiamdale and Flynns Creek, along similar lines to the Basslink interconnector and Saline Wastewater Outfall Pipeline. Community sessions will be held throughout October in Willung, Giffard West and Rosedale, as well as online.
